Langholm is nestled between 4 hills the largest of which is Whita which stands at 300 meters above and is home to the Malcolm Monument. The moment is named after Sir John Malcom one of ten 10 brothers whose family were tenant farmers in Burnfoot. 
With 14 wayward marked walks with a walk for all abilities from gentle relatively even to the undulating hills around the toon, Most of the walks start and end in the toon, there is ample parking at Kiln Green with the majestic Esk flowing past, there are 3 EV charging points to recharge your car. 
If you are looking for nature then the Tarras Nature Reserve is on the doorstep and the largest community buyout of its kind, with 5,200 acres bought in 2021 and an additional 5,300 acres bought in 2022.

 

Samye Ling Tibetan Monastery

One of the top tourist attractions in Dumfries and Galloway and 13 miles northwest of Langholm is the Samye Ling Tibetan Monastery.
An international Buddhist training centre is known for its teachings and traditional authenticity. It is also a center for preserving Tibetan religion, culture, medicine, art, architecture, and handicrafts.

Hermitage Castle

Nestled in the infamous reiving borderlands 16 miles north of Langholm, once described as the guardhouse to the bloodiest valley in Britain, this evil place is thick with legends of ghosts, black magic, torture and murder.
Mary Queen of Scots visited her lover, the 4th Earl of Bothwell, at the castle after he was viciously attacked and almost killed by the notorious reiver Little Jock Elliot.

Gilnockie Tower

Gilnockie Tower or Hollows Tower is one of the finest examples of a 16th-century Scots tower house or Pele Tower. A Clan Armstrong stronghold and home to a Scottish legend, it stands in what was known as the Debatable Lands – so-called because no one knew if they belonged to Scotland or England.
